A retaining wall has one job: hold back soil and water. The ones you see bowing, cracking, or leaning all failed for the same reasons — no footing, no drainage, no reinforcement. Water builds up behind them and pushes them over.
We build retaining walls to do their job for decades: a proper footing below frost line, gravel and drainage behind the wall to relieve water pressure, reinforcement, and a clean capped finish. The result holds your grade and gives you usable, level yard.
Done right, done to code
Proper footing
We set a footing below the frost line so the wall doesn't heave or settle.
Drainage built in
Gravel backfill and drainage relieve water pressure — the #1 reason walls fail.
Block or poured concrete
We build in concrete block or poured concrete, faced to match if you want the look.
Level, usable yard
A wall turns a slope into flat, usable space for a patio, garden or driveway.

Frequently asked questions
Why do retaining walls fail?
Almost always three reasons: no proper footing, no drainage behind the wall, and no reinforcement. Water builds up and pushes the wall over. We build with all three so yours doesn't.
How tall can a retaining wall be — do I need a permit?
In NYC, taller walls (typically over about 4 feet) often need engineering and a permit. We'll tell you what your wall requires and handle it the right way.
Block or poured concrete — which is better?
Both work. Concrete block is versatile and can be faced with brick or stone for looks; poured concrete is monolithic and strong. We'll recommend based on the height and load.
Do retaining walls really need drainage?
Yes — it's the single most important detail. Without drainage, water pressure behind the wall is what cracks and topples it. We always build in gravel backfill and drainage.
How much does a retaining wall cost?
It depends on the length, height, materials and drainage needs. We come look at the grade and give you one clear price for free.
How long does a retaining wall last?
Built right — proper footing, drainage and reinforcement — a retaining wall lasts decades. The failures are from skipped fundamentals, which is exactly what we don't skip.
